Trauma

Okay, I finally finished watching 'The Handmaid's Tale'.  It took time because it was so intense and alot to ingest.  After watching an episode (if I made it through) I would realise that I was clenching my jaw, my stomache was in knots, my hands were balled in fists, and I couldn't remember when I last took a breath.

Although the novel upon which the series was based was written years ago, it was/is a chilling reflection of some western societies today.  No elaboration will be given on that at this time.  I suggest you give it a watch, with your critical thinking mind open.  All I can say is that everyone in Gilead (the fictional state where the handmaid lived) was existing via trauma.  Intergenerational trauma.  Everyone.

Now, take a good hard look at not only your local or regional goings on; but, also at the global theatre.  And if you are not okay with the socio-economic and political situation, then act.  In whatever capacity you can - act.  Don't get distracted by news that is not really news and issues that are not really issues; but, are deflections.  And, I don't mean sending aid to places outside of your nation, when there are people living in tent cities in your back yard.  Or, complaining that organic olives were not stocked in your grocery store so you had to purchase inorganic olives.  But, hey, if that is your thing who am I to poo poo that.

I do believe that there are pockets of change that have the potential to shift the trajectory that we are on.  I have to believe that and act.  I have children and I don't want them to live the life depicted in so many currently popular sci-fi dystopian or post-apocalyptic films and series such as 'The Handmaid's Tale'.  From what I am witnessing, Gilead, or vaulted communities etc. are just around the corner.  Barely.
